review 1: I received this book as a Goodreads giveaway. It took me several tries to get going, but once I got through the first 30 pages or so the story took off. It was a page turner that I read over a couple of days. The characters are interesting, but I was more intrigued by the plot and storyline. My recommendation to others is to keep at it - once it picks up, this book is a great beach or airplane read. I look forward to reading more by the author.
review 2: Can anyone escape their past, or will it haunt them forever? That is the central theme of this taut, well-crafted thriller. Roddy Dolan and Danny Burns, old friends from their rough and tumble school days in Brooklyn have gone on to become successful-- Roddy a surgeon and Danny an account. When another old pal,
... more Kenny Egan, shows up with a deal to open a restaurant that's almost too good to be true, the men jump at the chance. But, as we know if something seems too good to be true, it usually is. Things go south pretty fast, and Mark Rubinstein does a good job of getting us to the gritty conclusion where we learn to what lengths Roddy and Danny will go to protect themselves and their families and the consequences that entails. less
