review 1: I should have paid more attention when I choose this book. I was expecting something very different and a lot younger. Instead I got an interesting book about mermaid lore. I was not expecting all the sex that's in the first half. Definitely not younger! Despite being surprised by the story this was an interesting addition to mermaid stories I have read. I am always impressed by graphic novels that manage to be longer than 50 pages. It's hard to get the story and pictures to work together for long, but this book did a beautiful job telling a dark and sad tale.
review 2: A gripping, fast-paced mystery mixing myths marred by time with a reality in which inner lives clash with external needs. Even the drawings suggest that there is something more beyond what is in
... moreitially perceived. Despite some strange expressions, the lovely art conveys a detail and urgency that the story requires -- and the story, well, it touches on so many themes (feminism, the place of mythology, gender roles, leadership, etc. etc.) and yet maintains a singular plot with little distraction. This graphic novel isn't short, but I finished it in one sitting with no desire to rest or think. less

I thought this book odd and fascinating at the same time. The art looks cool and the reading witty.

It was really, really good. The artwork is amazing, and the story is intriguing.

Interesting story, beautiful charcoal though disconcertingly cartoony characters
