review 1: Thoroughly enjoyed this installment but feel that I didn't know the character of Gabriel as I did the others. Wish i'd heard more of his views on past events or heard about his childhood introduction to privateering or that of his relationship with his brother. It was very much about his current adventure and romance which wasn't bad as I did love the story but wanted to know more of the Dante's.Hope there's another in the Series as the other Hell twin has yet to make an appearance
review 2: 4 Stars for writing style alone. MC can truly write wonderful adventures and have the reader see every detail in their minds as if they were physically standing there. I hope she never puts her pen down again. This story is the continuation of the Dante series and yes it's
... moreabout Pirates. I know, I rolled my eyes the first time I considered a pirate themed book too. But this is Marsha Canham, and she brings her stories to life with all the adventure, strong characters, and non-stop action of an era long gone where stories were larger than life and romance was not just about the sex, it encompassed the entire tale.(Can you tell I am a huge fan?) Gabriel's story has many of these elements and the story is wonderfully told. The detail, as always, brings to light really great historical tidbits had me pausing several times. The actual romance between the two main characters wasn't as strong as I would have liked, but the characters themselves were wonderfully constructed. The villeins weren't up to the standard I have experienced with other books by MC, but they were distasteful enough. The story was very good, but it didn't have the impact I have experience in her other books. Of all Marsha's works, the Sea Wolf Series was not my favorite, and waiting so long for another book from her had my expectations quite high, so I am not sure if I am judging this fairly. It was very good, make no mistake, but not as epic as some of her other books. Still, no one can equal her writing in swashbuckling, fun and adventure with to die for Heros and always strong heroines. Very good read, and could go as a stand alone, but you absolutely have to read them in order if you want to enjoy this story to the fullest. The story of the Sea Wolf and the Black Swan should not be missed anyway. Nor should The Wind and the Sea, my all time favorite book of her pirate collections. less
