review 1: 2 1/2 stars? Abadeer being a dick isn't very funny, but the Marceline + Finn + Jake marginalia and the chapter on heroing are nice. It's a lot of dickishness to wade through, though, and a lot of me wondering how old Marceline has to be before her father starts treating her like an adult. (Yes, I know AT is aimed at a tweenish audience. I get that. But Marce's A THOUSAND YEARS OLD. At some point her dad has got to stop being a patronizing ass to her. OTOH, she's a thousand year old vampire who hangs out with a 13 year old kid and his dog. By choice. And has all the daddy issues, possibly because he fails to treat her like a person he has no right to control!)I know I'm doing gender analysis basically all the time now, but I feel like I'm being slapped in the face with it, ... moreand any book containing (a LOT of) princesses is bound to step on those landmines. I'm reading for more heroines nao. And ready for Fionna and Cake to be written WELL and more often. SIGH.Oh, kudos for so MANY artists and a lot of really great images, even if most are just portraits.
review 2: The Adventure Time Encyclopedia is for everyone that LOVES Adventure Time, but know this is not what you may think, in that it's not really an encylopedia per se. It's a collection of information compiled by His Lowness, Hunson Abadeer, Lord of Evil - sic. Yep, Marceline's dad. All the characters you love are in this book, and a lot of information about the sites to visit, characters that inhabit the Land of OOO, song lyrics, I could go on...but you get the idea...if you Love AT like I do, then you will like the book, if not, move along, please, move along. less
