review 1: I've given this book five stars simply because Mary Moody tackles the subject of a mid-life crisis, marriage meltdown, in such an honest, head-on way. She tells of how she buys a run down house in a French village, and spends months there, away from her family obligations and her husband. Set during the heatwave which killed around 15,000 french people, she describes her torrid affair with a man she meets in France. I particularly liked her description of driving home along the back roads, at 3am, with her undies in her purse. The woman has written a real tell-all book, with some sad moments of self realisation, as her marriage disintegrates around her. She's the perfect example of a baby boomer, unable to face getting a bit older, and wanting to have it all. I wonder if h... moreer husband and her stayed together??
review 2: “I’m feeling rather woozy from all those hours of drinking wine.”“…we quaff the wonderful local reds.”“We stack the trolley with reds from__and rosé from__”“I buy bulk rosé from Bergerac and we bottle it together over the sink,__It’s often too hot to eat very much, but we still manage to get through the rosé,__”“and drink far too much rosé.”“we drink lots of wine.”And that pretty well sums up a lot of Mary Moody’s time in France. That and party, party, party! “__my natural inclination is to be excessive.” Yes, she says it.This is a very self indulgent story. Mary Moody’s two previous books were great reads, but this third book reads as an indulgence, carried on the backs of the two previous books. She shows she does not picture consequences as well as she should, whether it’s having an affair (two), or taking the muzzle off Ulysses the dog. It is not until near the end of the book that she begins to display empathy for her husband. An okay read, but not up to the standard of the two previous books. less

Not having read her other books, this felt like a novel defending them.
