The whole book felt like one huge mess. I’m not even kidding. This review is a little salty. Be prepared.
While Ever is an interesting character, she just seems so..childish. I don’t know how to explain it beyond the fact that I don’t really like Ever. The circumstances that Ever is in are interesting, yes, but Ever herself…just seems to be annoying. Ever irks me in a way that I can coherently describe.
So, Ever is Psychic. That’s all I can really say about her, aside from not wanting to let her dead sisters’ ghost go, having a really pissy best friend (who I’d honestly dump as a friend if I was treated like that), and another best-friend who was really one of the best things about this book. I wish there were more of him in Evermore, since I can’t remember whether or not we see more of them in the other books of the Immortals series.
I found that re-reading Evermore brought back a lot of memories of me reading the Immortals series the first time around. I found Evermore to be really freaking weird the first time I read it, and to be honest, this series is still really. freaking. weird. I forgot just how weird this series actually is, and how so out of place the story feels.
I don’t like the love interest at all. There are so many things wrong with how unreliable Damen was for 90% of the book. And I’ve never liked Drina, ever, so, there’s also that. Drina is also another brat.
Since I’d forgotten quite a few bits of the book maybe I repressed this book ’cause it was so bad the first time around, I found that some parts of the story were completely obvious and 100% predictable.
I had a few flash-backs to the past with reading Evermore, with how some things and life was like back in 2007-09. Like the mentioning’s of “Sidekicks.” That was a real flash to the past, that’s for sure. I actually had to look up what a sidekick was cause I totally forgot what sidekicks were, but I remembered being jealous that Ever’s friend had one and I didn’t.
While there were a few interesting scenes, I found the rest of the book incredibly lacking.
I remember now why I was so pissed at the book, and the circumstances surrounding the Immortals. I mean, they have so many similar traits to how vampires are–this is even discussed in the book, but they’re “not vampires, they’re Immortals.” I just want to roll my eyes at this Immortal business. Honestly, I do.
I ended up giving Evermore, 2 of 5 stars on Goodreads. Once I finish re-reading the series, they’re definitely going to the back of my shelf. I kinda want to forget that this book was ever a thing.
