review 1: This is a perfect child-friendly version of Homer's The Odyssey. I read this aloud to my children (6 and 10) to complement our history lessons about ancient Greece. They both enjoyed the story, although I think the older child would have been further engaged with a more complex text, especially since she is the household expert on all things Greek mythology. I recommend this for early elementary readers.
review 2: I feel extremely sorry Odysseus, because he not only is still on ship, sailing, trying to go home, but he is also alone and by himself. If I were him, I would feel scared and lonely, and I personally wouldn't ssssknow what to do. It makes me think of what I have right now and how that would differ of I were by myself. I would think of myself as a lite
... moreral outcast, having to be just by myself in the open sea, on a ship in a long and vst ocean. As Odysseus recalls everything that had happened to him within the past 20 years, he recalls mainly deaths and sadness along a long and winding road to where he is at the moment. However, nearing the end of the story, I feel more hopefull because it seems that Odysseus will survive the ocean and return hopefully. However, due to the part 1 of the story, I would think that something devastating would happen as it did in the first part, when Odysseus' companions open up the bag of wind. However, it does not happen, and naked me feel happy that he is finally back with his family, after almost 20 years. This book has truly showed me the things that people will do to see their loved ones, and what things they have to encounter on the way. less
