review 1: A letter from the past brings up lots of memories of the time Iris spent in France during 1914 when she set out from Australia to find her brother Tom who had run away at a very early age to go to war. Iris ends up in a field hospital in an old abbey at Royaumont where she meets Violet who is a ambulance driver. Grave Iris's granddaughter is a Dr and Iris is coming to the end of her life but wants to go back to France for a reunion. Unfortunately Iris dies before he can do this but Grace goes and finds out a story which changes her identity.
review 2: Two stars means, "it was okay". And that about sums it up. The premise of the story has been done many times over, (how women contributed during WW11) but, in my opinion this book lacked "meat". For the women
... more who rebelled the conventions of that time, life was interesting but certainly not easy. Doubts, objections and calamity must have caused immense stress during a time when men were being maimed and destroyed by the thousands daily, right before their eyes. In my opinion, fiction writing with a true history background has a duty to teach a little bit more about the human emotion than this book offers. less
