review 1: I loved it. My first Mary Wine novel. At first the heroine, Daphne, got on my nerves. She was stubborn, headstrong, fiercely independent, almost got herself married to the enemy clan, always testing the hero's, Norris, patience. However, her weaknesses were also her strength. She slowly won me over. Particularly, when she did not see herself above anyone else. She did not want to be waited on. She wanted to help out in the kitchen, but was berated for that. I liked Norris. He is alpha, protective, sexy, he truly adored Daphne from the minute he laid his highlander eyes on her. He swept her away from her clan to his kingdom so that he may pursue her without any conflicts and/or her big brother running interference. Daphne was so much in lust and like with him th... moreat she did not care that he was heir to his clan and he had his own kingdom. She loved him for him; while, Norris loved her without a dowry. Pre-arranged marriages were a custom back in that long ago century and I'm sure it still plays a big part in some parts of the world. There is nothing wrong with that. It keeps the lineage and it is like a pre-nuptial agreement. Thus, if I was in that era, I hope to be as lucky as Daphne and Norris were. There were conflicts and enemies of the state. Nonetheless, those conflicts were resolved and those enemies were put down. It was a great read and I am a fan.
review 2: Daphne is a laird's daughter who was betrothed, ruined by choice, and now kidnapped by a cruel neighbor for her lands, dowry, and womb. Norris is a powerful earl's son who helped Daphne avoid an unwanted marriage, and now can't stop thinking of her. Rescuing her and bringing her back to his home finds neither able to stay out of the other's bed. An unexpected visit from a neighboring laird and his evil sister who wants Norris for her own, begins a period of poisonings, lies, and loyalties that are put to the test. Good read!! less
