review 2: Naruto Volume 70 was a very interest... moreing addition to the long-running series that is Naruto. The Naruto series as a whole has a huge following, but as of late lost many of its fans due to a lack of good plot. While I love the series, I found this book to not live up to its name. Masashi Kishimoto creates many great plot elements, and then simply throws them out the window. The story has descended into a near-meaningless brawl, where the characters gain power almost at a random point just for convenience of the fight.First, after making a huge deal of Might Guy opening the 8th gate, having backstory and meaning to him dying at the end of it. However, this whole meaning is lost when Kishimoto simply has Naruto heal him in a second. This drop in plot is evident in chapter 673 page 12, where Guy's closets student and friend remarks: "Naruto, you saved Guy...!? But I thought he had opened all eight gates?!" On the same page Naruto vaguely responds with "Yeah... Now, I'm feeling like I can do all sorts of things..."Characters are gaining a random set of powers that just-so-happen to fix the situation, and eventually it gets to the point that Kishimoto doesn't even bother explaining. He throws in random techniques and expects us to accept that Naruto just instantly knows how to use them, after having him complete 2 years of training, for one technique, and on another occasion, took several hundred clones (allowing him to learn at several hundred times normal pace) to learn one technique that still took several weeks to perfect.Overall, I still love the series, but the more recent volumes have not been satisfactory. less
