review 1: Tragically, the gospel is mostly assumed in churches today. Or worse, it is changed so as to not offend anyone. As Mark Dever said, "a gospel that in no way offends the sinner has not been understood." Growing up in church I had heard bits and pieces of the gospel, but I had never learned the entire thing as a whole, so this book was very helpful to me. It helped me to gain a much fuller understanding of God's grace and mercy, and how much I am in need of it. After reading this book and wrestling with the ideas contained in it my faith has grown more than I can tell you. Highly recommended.
review 2: I got a lot out of reading this book. The author provided a good discussion on the fact that most Christians don't actually know the Gospel. He stressed the impo
... morertance of knowing the Gospel at the most basic level without adding or taking away from it.He detailed the dangers of moving too far in the direction of relying on personal works (being able to redeem oneself to God) and the opposite of moving too far in the direction of relying only on faith (not caring about the law as you are already redeemed by Christ). This book is easy to read and could be considered a good introduction to systematic theology. less
