The Savages
review 1: Dark humor and intriguing characters. Youtuber Booksandquils recommended this book in her Halloween book reviews and I was immediately intrigued by it. Mainly because I'm a fan of Hannibal and other thriller merchandises, I decided to give it a try. It was interesting to see how Savages behaved in everyday lives, and coordinated their diets in domesticated situations. And I find myself sympathizing with the family more. Maybe because I wanted to find more about them or wanted to see how they handle certain events. Also, it had some interesting points about food, and how it defines ourselves in community. Everything from the historical reference, family relationship, individuality, to the ending were spot on.I would recommend this if you like works with just the right of amo... moreunt of action and drama.
review 2: "The Savages" is a book unlike any other.Never have I read something that addresses the topic of cannibalism, so I was skeptical about Matt Whyman's "The Savages". Nonetheless, I am glad I brought it, this is definitely making into my 'great books' shelf, which has come to quite a surprise as it isn't really a subject matter one would expect to enjoy- I did however. Don't mistake my love for this books for wanting to become a cannibal, no, I just loved being given an insight into the mind of someone who consumes human flesh. Whenever I hear of "cannibal-serial killer" cases, I always wonder 'why?' 'what is so appealing about wanting to eat a fellow human?', thanks to Matt Whyman I can somehow understand why some human beings decide to adopt this culture (However taboo it may be in our society). Not only was I surprised by the fact that I thoroughly enjoyed the book, I also rooted for the family to get away with what they were doing. I wanted the private detective to not escape and for the boyfriend to be the main course..oh lord, what has this book done to me?Whyman has managed to throw in all sorts of topics into one book, from relationships in the family, first relationships, healthy eating, to cannibalism, and the end product is a true masterpiece. less

Wonderfully dark for a YA book but with much more intelligence and well written.

Nice idea, not well written. Needed editing, too.
