review 1: I bought The Damned Busters on a whim. I had the cash, it sounded like a good read, all the reasons why we buy books on whims had fallen into place like it had been ordained for me to read this book. I tried reading it the first time, but I couldn't get into it. I had to start over. After forcing myself through the first half of the first chapter, though, I fell in love with this book. The "having to start over" thing is the only that keeps me from giving this book 5 stars.Unlike what most people who didn't finish the book seem to think, it is NOT a typical super-hero book. Yes, Chesney goes from mild-mannered actuary to a crime-fighter, but there is so much more to it. The book has a lot of false climaxes and makes you think twice about how it will end. Also, the "love in... moreterest" is a red herring. You'll have to read the book to understand all my spoiler-laden babbling, but take my word when I say it is very good. Also, keep in mind that this is the first book in a trilogy. There will be more to come. I can only imagine what else Mr. Hughes has planned for The Actionary.
review 2: I am unsure of why there are so many low reviews of this book on goodreads. I found this book to be very entertaining, sarcastic, funny, somewhat thought provoking and different than your run of the mill fiction. I love that the author totally changes up the image of hell that many have had preached to us as children, and inserting the human element of contracts and unions, etc. . I finished this book very quickly and immediately started on part 2. Don't take other reviews to heart, as I truly don't understand why they are so low. This is simply a good read. less

Clever. Fun, quick read. Should make for an interesting series.

Don't waste your time. Unless you have lots of time to waste.

And an agent thought my superhero series was too out there.
