review 1: The Nethergrim is an evil that lurks in the mountains defeated long ago, yet it seems to be rising.14 year old Edmund dreams of being a wizard even though his inn-keeper father is determined he learn the business.When the village children start to disappear, he finds himself on a grand adventure with his two friends to confront the Nethergrim. This novel is a large dreamy fantasy good for avid readers.
review 2: This book was OK, but it didn't really grab me. There were aspects I enjoyed, Katherine as a character (kind of wish she was the main POV character rather than Edmund), the friendships (but wish there was more focus on those too), and the mystery of the Nethergrimm. None of the aspects I enjoyed though, quite meshed into a fully satisfying story for me.... more It wasn't bad, but it didn't stand out as memorable either, and I totally saw the final twist coming from a mile away.I can definitely see this story appealing to middle school students though, so I'm glad we bought it for our library. less
