review 1: Good sci fi, lots of attention to detail. I really liked the author's other book, Cyberstorm. Like that book, Atopia gives you a sense of discomfort while reading. This is not "happy vision of the future" sci if, but rather, a look at some deep seated human issues through the lens of a "what if?" future. Ending tees everything up nicely for the next book in the series, which it plan to dive right into.
review 2: An interesting and inventive novel that follows the classic sci-fi formula: New technology advances society and seems to be the answer to everyone's problems until something goes awry...I thought that the premise of the futuristic world that was created was believable and the technology was fun, creative, and thought provoking. It was well explained, ea... moresy to understand, and very imaginative.The first half of the book was a bit random and manic and reminded me a bit of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (minus the depravity) and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy in its quirkiness.I enjoyed the way the author broke the book into different sections and told the same story from different characters' perspectives adding on information and giving you insight into the plot from a different point of view.Overall, it was a fun read and although I gave it 3 stars, I'd still recommend it. It didn't rock my world or change my life, so I'm not going to oversell it. If you want your world rocked by a sci-fi series, read Enders Game. less
