review 1: This is probably my favorite of Sendak's works; I appreciate that he communicates certain aspects of life in a way that is beautiful, but isn't so... sanitized. For such a difficult topic, (the loss of his brother, Jack) the author has written a beautiful poem! I read this three times and will probably read it three more before I return the book back to the library. It carries a new meaning each time I read it. review 2: This is Sendak's last book. It's a very sad book. This story is about Sendak's longing to see his dead brother. Grief is a horrible thing to live with and explain. I found this book to explain it in the most beautiful way. This book touched my heart. His illustrations were beautiful. There was something mystical about them. It's not the same... more Sendak pictures your use to seeing, partly because he was older when he painted them. less
