review 1: The book Before Amen by Max Lucado was a wonderful and amazing book. Max talks about “The Power of a Simple Prayer.” I, for one, have a lot of guilt regarding prayer. I have always wanted my prayer life to be more fulfilling. The words in this book really helped me not to feel guilty anymore. Max also gives lots of tools and suggestions for helping us get started in prayer. He says to just start with a little prayer and then once you get started it’s easier to keep going. I know with me a lot of my problem is getting started.This book just really helped me with my prayer life and I am so glad I read it. I did it as part of a Bible study but it’s a book to be read on your own as well. There are also discussion questions in the back for each chapter. This b... moreook was really easy to read…for me anyway. It flowed well and was really easy to relate to. Sometimes I thought that he wrote certain parts specifically for me!I highly recommend this book. It’s a must read as far as I’m concerned and I give this 5***** all the way around.
review 2: I liked this book. I have come back to the church over the past several years, and have started attending church and praying regularly. I found this book helpful. It is similar to what our pastor says. He has us pray The Lord's Prayer, only following the categories of the prayer, not the prayer verbatim. This is a similar approach. I liked that the author gave us an alternative, simple prayer. And I am always afraid that I am not praying "correctly." I like his assurances that we can pray in the car, while we are walking, etc. That we don't need to be formal, that we just need to keep an ongoing conversation with God. I also liked the scriptural support for his beliefs. The book is a very quick read, and I think helpful. less
