review 1: This was an interesting story well told.When Gina Fiore disappears, her family turns to Danny Logan, a PI and former boyfriend, to find her. What he finds is much more complex than a missing woman, a conspiracy involving the Mob and a Mexican drug cartel.There were odd breaks in the middle of some scenes in this book that broke up the flow of the story. Some large chunks of Danny’s backstory felt like info dumps and slowed the story down, and a page of info on the Green River Killer had to bearing on the story.The real climax to the story – finding Gina Fiore – comes about the middle of the book, which is way too early for a mystery. Everything after that is a prolonged tying up of loose ends that drags a bit (except for a few mini-climaxes) and takes the book awa... morey from the mystery/PI genre.Still, this was a good enough story and Danny and the rest of the employees at Logan PI, his company, were interesting enough that I want to read more books in this series.
review 2: Angel Dance by M.D. Grayson. I enjoyed the book; it was a real rip-roaring mystery thriller. It was done tastefully and with good 3 dimensional characters whom you felt you knew as well as their histories and how they and their families have interrelated. In fact, a good part of this from the generations involved, was rather epic and historical including the nature of the relationships. Danny Logan was outstanding; he was diplomatic, willing to cooperate, and very sincere rather than a confirmed non-conformist as are so many. And he was not particularly "hard-boiled." Not that this can't be quite effective and enjoyable to me at times, but this was refreshing and nice. The word pictures and descriptions of Seattle and environs were especially good. I will read more of this series. less
