review 1: Okay, so these took me a little while longer to really catch onto, but I'm glad I stuck through! Shadowland gets a 3 and Ninth Key a 3.5. It was a good book but it's not AWESOME to say I REALLY liked it. Which I hate giving out less than 4 or 5 stars generally unless I hated the book, but I am working on this & my honesty in terms of book reviewing. Cabot is hands down one of my favorite writes (as though who follow my reviews should be well aware by this point) and person in general. Seriously. She is my inspiration to write & be the crazy dorky person I am & I love reading her blog & watching her YT videos (in which she gives advice & stuff with Michelle Jaffe). This is one of her older books (Shadowland published in 2000) and the plot (THEY HAVE A HOUSE PHONE?! AND IT R... moreINGS. AND IT HAS CALL WAITING) and her writing, which is good, but is definitely, in my humble opinion, in it's earlier stages. I don't mind it though, because we've all got to start somewhere & I like these books enough. But her more recent writing is much better. Plot- Adnventury! Mystery! A great feel of the supernatural, but shallow enough that it's appropriate for middle schoolers without it getting too religious (Cabot is great at not treading too far). Cabot constantly amazes me with how she's able to write in all these crazy perspectives- princess (The Princess Diaries), girl who saves the president's son (All American Girl), girl who switches bodies with a supermodel (Airhead) yet she does them all in a really funny, awesome way. And as always, she always provides the PERFECT touch of romance. It's never overwhelming, and I never feel I'm reading a purely romantic book, but it's JUST ENOUGH to egg you on. THis plot is good enough with AWESOME action. The writing makes me feel like I'm watching Sabrina the Teenage Witch though.. like, it's very sitcom-y feel. I think this book would make a great show with Cabot involved. Characters- Suze is like the Kim Possible of Ghost Busting. That's really the best way I can describe her. She's fearless & gets her homework done.Jesse is hands down the BEST and I'm so in love with him & I love his dynamics with Suze & her father & Father Dom. So mysterious & charming & I will not give anything away but he's a major reason I'm so curious to finish the series. Father Dom- cool guy enough, hilariously has an embolism every time he finds out about how Suze has handled ghost situations. Tad was beautiful yet so stupid, God. I'm unsure of my feelings on his dad. Won't do spoilers, but yeah. He's a little cray. The characters are cool enough. While I like Suze, she is not my favorite Meg Cabot female. I am in love with Jesse though...Overall- Pretty good! I liked Ninth Key much better than Shadowland & I will definitely continue the series.
review 2: It's not like this book is made for the reader who is searching for intellectual challenges, but I have to admit, I love this book, especially the first part (which is book 1) because it is totally entertaining! I had to laugh so many times, even in the tram, which caused several people looking at me as if I'm crazy :DMeg Cabot really knows how to entertain and write a book for teenage girls, and those, like me, who are obviously a little older ;)It is a Fantasy book of course, but not like the standard "Twilight-vampire-werewolf-stuff"I'm SO going to read the 3rd and 4th part for sure! less

Good, good book. This is the reason why I'm so mad at Soul Screamer series.
