review 1: I loved the language in this book, and the narrative voice. It read exactly like the summer when you go from a child to less a child, when you lose the ability to play dress up non-ironically. I have nothing bad to say about it, and there wasn't anything about it that I didn't like, except that I didn't love it. I liked it, I read it quickly, I was invested in the characters, I needed to know what had happened to Evie. The writing was great. I'm completely satisfied--but at the same time, I don't see myself recommending it or revisiting it. A great book, and probably a case where I would have loved it if I'd read it at a different time.
review 2: This has to be one of the best books I've read this year. I've been reading Megan Abbott's collection of books
... morebackwards from publication date, and honestly, I'm glad I chose to. So far, every book before the last has something so much more enriching and involving that I can't help but fall more and more in love with this author. You definitely have to do a little more work with this book, push through certain moments that either drag by from the realism of the day by day, or from the squirminess of the true nature of near young adult sexuality. One of the most powerful books about this topic I've read since White Oleander. Definitely worth the read less

Super unsettling, creepy book. I didn't really enjoy reading it, but it was so well done.
