review 1: I was very excited to read this book, and it did not disappoint. All of the stories were great noir tales that felt as if they could have happened in the game itself. It took advantage of the anthology set up nicely; if this had been a novel length story, I doubt I would have been as interested. Again, this anthology set up made it feel as if I were reading episodes right out of the game. I only wish there had been more stories. Of course, I can always read more noir anthologies if I need to.
review 2: Lansdale hit the mark precisely. Mr. Duane S. also captured the right noir feel of a man in trouble and running out of options. Other stories were decent but often lacked the right noir feel. We are talking femme fatales, crooked cops, a broken political machine
... more, and social upheaval that colors the narrative. So for the price and experience, this was a winner even though some stories weren't 100%. Do I want to go on now and read my James m. Cain? You bet! less

Very hard to follow, and to stay interested, I wouldn't call this true noire.
