review 1: This was a really interesting read. Almost every page I flipped I kept thinking I should stop and read the 1st one first. I decided what I'll do instead is finish it, read the 1st one and then read the 2nd one again. Now just have to make time for the 3rd one. It's just a compelling and believable story, it sucks you in and makes you care for the characters. Good job Megan.I received the book for free through Goodreads First Reads.
review 2: In The Lives We Lost, the story continues with Kaelyn’s island she lives on being rampaged by a deadly unknown virus. No one has yet to find a source of the disease, but her father did manage to come up with a vaccine he was able to make before he was killed. With Kaelyn’s strong determination to prevent anymore lives fr
... moreom being lost, she sets out to find any person who can replicate this cure. With Gav, Tessa, her cousin, Meredith, and her long lost friend, Leo, they all pack up to leave the island in search of help. Eventually they come across Tobias, a soldier willing to aid them on their voyage to the mainland where they learn that the virus isn’t the only deadly thing out there hurting people. There are groups of people who will do anything to get the infamous vaccine Kaelyn must protect at all costs.Since winter finally came, Kaelyn and her friends struggle to go north to a health center they are hoping will still have survivors able to replicate the cure. Along the way, the group of teens come across groups of people who try to hurt them for the medicine, showing that not everyone can be trusted. Most of the group of friends, bonded by their aim towards survival, trust people tracking their every move which did lead to some dangerous situations they were put in, testing their courage. At some points it was frustrating to see Gav and the other friends be so impulsive at points, but it did show the naivety of teens in a hard time without adults caring for them.Along with new characters being added to the story on the journey to find a scientist willing to help with the cure, new antagonists were introduced. A group of rebels called the Wardens are spread across the nation, trying to find the vaccine for their group. With the Wardens and the crazed victims of the virus, Kaelyn and her friends are put to the test in their efforts to end this deadly disease. This book was practically The Walking Dead in book form with, obviously, different scenarios (no zombies roaming the Earth). The entire disease concept was thrilling to read, leaving me to wonder who else was going to be infected. I loved Kaelyn’s development from the shy girl she was in the first book to a strong protagonist able to protect the people she loved. The only thing that bothered me was how trusting the entire group was to complete strangers. Sometimes they were far too gullible to believe that everyone who managed to survive the disease was trustworthy. Other than that, this book was adventurous and action packed which made me fly through this story. I really recommend this to any Sci-Fi lovers and anyone who has seen and loved The Walking Dead. less
