review 1: Yes, I know, there have been many YA books recently about catastrophes, and viruses, and wars, and the aftermaths of those events: the violence, and the zombies, and the fallen societies. But this one grabbed me because of its journal-like form, and the fact that Kaelyn is this journal to her former best friend, Leo, the boy she hasn't spoken to in years, and the one she realizes she may be in love with after all, and who may never actually see what she has written. "The Way We Fall" is well-written, and includes the typical teenage anxieties (why isn't she sitting next to me? What do I have to do to belong?) along with its depiction of the breakdown of society in the wake of a devastating illness that kills most of its victims. Kaelyn finds strength in herself to deal wit... moreh the crises, both personal and societal, that occur in her life after the virus sweeps through. The first of a trilogy, and recommended if you like YA apocalyptic tales.
review 2: Deadly fever has taken over a small island. Will Kaelyn and her family survive? Will the cure be found before the sickness spreads to the rest of the world. This book is written in diary format. Life As We Knew It has completely transformed my life, that being said, The Way We Fall did not live up to the awesomeness that is LAWKI but it was a stellar effort. I will read the next book in the series. This novel focuses more on the scientific aspects of a pandemic. less
