review 1: Not a pleasant read, if you are into healthy eating. It was disturbing to me to find out all the negative processes that go into making packaged food. Negative, in the sense that so much that is good about certain foods is taken out for the sake of preserving the shelf life of these processed meals. After reading this book, I feel as though I should only load up my grocery shopping cart with fresh fruits and vegetables, and nuts, and stay away from anything in a package!
review 2: A better title for this book would be, "Preservatives for Dummies". It tells you everything you wanted to know about preservatives and processed foods and then some. The author covered how they are made, why they are used, and today's marketing of foods containing them. It was rea
... morelly quite interesting, not to mention scientific, to see the evolution of these preservatives we consume on a daily basis. Definitely food for thought. I actually tried to go one whole day without ingesting any preservatives. I thought, "piece of cake" since I eat fairly healthy. I not only failed....I completely failed. They are in almost everything. Going a day or even week without eating processed foods is much easier. less

Lots of good information. Overly strident and snarky in parts throughout.
