review 1: That was cool! I loved this one! I did have a little bit of a hard time connecting with Angel though - she didn't seem to take the D/s roles very seriously. Of course she was new to it, and had her doubts, but even towards the end, she just didn't seem to take it as seriously as Lake and Lucy did. We start off in this book about 2 months after the incident that happened with Eric shooting Rodney Baker in order to save Lucy's life. Eric is still struggling through the horrible dreams of ending another man's life. even in the line of duty and knowing it was to save Lucy's life. But a life was a life, and Eric was having a really hard time dealing with it. His boss, Warner was being easy with him, more than Eric deserved, actually. So when Warner called Eric in his office and... more told him to suck it up and get over it, because Eric has a new assignment ...:A burglary at a bakery? What'd they steal, some sacks of flour? Money from the till?" "They stole nothing, except some cookies from the store room..." Eric was pissed! He was a detective, this was common police case. But after some thought, Eric decided there was something going on. Thieves didn't break into a business two nights in a row to steal cookies. Angelica Vega, the owner of La Tienda Dulce , Spanish for "Sweet Shop" was nervous. To see a 6 foot 4 man, gorgeous, tall, blond and muscular standing in the doorway of her bakery, she knew he wasn't a tourist. As he started making his way down to the counter where she was standing, she turned and made a cup of Cafe de Olla and handed it to him as he stood at the counter. He gratefully took a sip, but when Angelica offered him some breakfast, he told her he was here for her case, not to eat. Angel could see that the detective had a rough night. his eyes looked haunted, and she wanted to help. But when he started asking questions about the break in, they discussed what happened. The first night, someone broke in and scattered flour and stuff around in the back, then stole a few cookies and that was it. The next night, Tens of thousands of dollars worth of damage done to the tables, her glass display case, food, etc. But they didn't take anything. She had no threats, or anything, in fact, this area, all the owners were friendly towards each other. He asked to speak with the employees, only 3 of them were in now, but busy with customers, and the other 2 would be after school was over. Eric decided to come back when the other's got here, so he could talk to them... Soo all while they were discussing things, Eric couldn't seem to figure out why now, all of a sudden after months of nothing after the shooting, his body decides to take an interest in this woman.. and most of all, how was he suppose to find out if she was a sub? Leaving the bakery, he had a lunch date with Lake and Lucy. Both his friends were really concerned for him, and he was grateful for that, but he really wasn't in the mood to deal with them, at the moment. They invited him to Tygers to watch the bondage contest (I LOVE ROPE!) but Eric was too nervous to go back. He knew he had been too distracted lately, and if he was with a sub, he was afraid that he would take things too far, or not be able to read her right. so he got up and left. Going back to the bakery, he sat in a booth watching Angel. When Joe Black Hawk, the 18 year old high school kid who worked at the bakery came out to talk to Eric, Eric could see the guilt all over this kids' face. Being a cop as long as he has, he had learned about pointing out lies. So he was able to figure out this kid was involved with the burglaries, but the kid was smart, and he didn't trust cops. So he kept his lid closed tight. When Angel sat back down, she told him that Joe was a good kid. He's had a hard life and supports his mother and 4 brothers and sisters. He had to be innocent. Just as Eric was about to leave, Pamela Balder walked in "Hello, Mast.. umm, hello Eric." She said. He was surprised to find her there. She was a regular at Tygers with her Husband, and Eric has Topped both of them a few times already. Pamela explained that she came to the bakery a lot and was friends with Angel, so Eric decided it was time to go. And although Pamela has sworn a oath with the club, she told Angel about Eric ... and Angel was suddenly excited to see a bondage contest .... Eric left to go home to his empty house. Doing some research over the notes he and Sanchez had made that afternoon on Joseph Black Hawk. That's when Rodney Baker showed up in the char opposite from him. Crap, it's not bad enough he invaded his dreams, now he's going to come into his house while he's awake? GAH! He had to get out of there.. and he knew just where to go. He owed Lake and Lucy an apology. So he went to Tygers.....This was a cute story. I'm glad Eric got over his funk with the shooting. it took awhile though. He was a nervous wreck, and with good reason, too. Next book - Diego's story! ROPE BONDAGE!!!!
review 2: Killing someone, even to protect another is not an easy thing to live with, even if you are a police officer. Eric Ross is a cop who is second guessing himself ever since he shot to kill a murderer when he nearly killed another woman, Lucy. Eric's been remorseful and guilt ridden to the point where he's being haunted by the dead man's ghost. Yes, that's what I'm thinking - W.T.F?From here it gets better. I was actually pleasantly surprised and this book is a 3.5 star for me. I enjoyed it and it was a very fast read. The BDSM in here was good for me. The club was nice and wasn't GlitterKink in case anyone was wondering. The storyline was really quite well done. I flowed and I liked it. It was believable to me. I liked Angel's character and even when she does a very stupid thing, I can kind of understand. I'm a bit pissed about her father. What an asshole. I don't like him one bit and he wasn't even in the story much. The struggle Angel experiences in submitting is all too familiar. Eric's lack of confidence isn't helping and only causing more communication failures. This is all so realistic that I'm easy buying into it. Even the dumb kid, Joseph, who doesn't think about the consequences of his actions. Ever have a day where you just want to slap people upside the head and go, "THINK! STOP AND THINK!". Today is that day for me. And it appears the books I'm reading aren't helping. This is a lovely little BDSM story which I can definitely recommend to both new and experienced BDSM readers. Enjoyable and sweet. less
