review 1: Full disclosure: I received an ARC in return for an honest review. This is the final book in the Rogue River series, which featured a collaboration between writers Kendra Elliot and Melinda Leigh. The drug war in Solitude comes to a head in this final installment. We're focusing on Carly and Seth's story again. Seth, an investigator on the drug-task force team, is determined to put his broken family back together. Carly, a social worker, chafes at Seth's dislike for her work and the danger in which it puts her. Of course, he ignores that he puts his life in danger as a cop, because he's a man and all. However, Seth is making strides toward being a better character in this book. I really couldn't like him in book #2, Gone to her Grave, but he was better in this book. ... moreSolitude was founded by the O'Rourke family and they are desperately trying to breathe life into the small town through the construction of a resort. Unfortunately, accidents plague the site and now it looks like the drug problem may be tied to the folks building the resort. This was a satisfying end to the series, though I'm sorry that it had to end at all. I really enjoyed this collaboration between two of my favorite authors. Some favorite moments: • Small Town Rule #8: Your recycling says a lot about your personal habits, so it's important to be discreet.• Small Town Rule #10: If you couldn't wait to leave your small town, as soon as you did, you realized it had been the best place to grow up. Highly recommend.© Angela Risner 2014. Unauthorized use and/or duplication of this material without express and written permission from Goodreads or Angela Risner is strictly prohibited. review 2: Truth be told, I started reading this series because of my familiarity with the Rogue River area. In the first novella, it was easy to like the Taylor family... their closeness, their lifestyle in a small, laid-back town... So I was hooked, eager to see where the loose ends would lead, and hoping the characters would show more depth as the storyline evolved. In this, the fourth and final novella, the loose ends, both professional and personal, are tidily wrapped up in a satisfying ending. While the suspense of finding the murderers and drug dealers kept my interest, I must admit I wanted to slap Carly for her childish immaturity, and clobber her estranged hubby for kissing her butt, repeatedly. I'd classify all four novellas as light Summer reading, not meaty plots. less
