review 1: I really hated Oliver's story about meeting the witch; it was completely unnecessary. First of all, he would never succumb to becoming a blood whore. I don't like how he was all the sudden weak, but then two seconds later he was able to fight the hypnosis that he was under. I also didn't like how hypnosis was used to explain the breaking of the devotion from the familiar; it is just too easy. I also didn't like that one night of sex and a "special" breakfast is how Oliver was able to get over his love for Sky. I loved hearing about how Sky's mother, Allegra, and Sky's father, Ben, fell in love. They sound like two high school sweethearts. Charles was really stuck up in this story and I can see exactly where Mimi got that from; she just followed the example her "father" set... more. I wish the first time that Allegra took Ben as her familiar was after they were already in love and she was in dire need of it. From the way I read it, it seems that she was tempted and she indulged in that temptation. So, from the ending, I am guessing that her and Charles also slept together, if we are to believe the vision that Allegra saw. Which brings us to the vision, that was super weird. I liked hearing about the bonding ceremony between Jack and Sky, but we didn't need all the danger and everything that went along with it. The author should have just told us about the night of their bonding and left it at that. Also, I do not buy for a minute that both Sky and Jack were virgins before this. What about all those secret trysts that they had together in that apartment? Don't tell me that they did everything but sex and cuddled. Also, what about that whole year that Sky was with Oliver? Are you telling me that nothing happened? They shared a room for a year...
