review 1: Wonderful! A sweet, thoughtful story about a 28 year old woman named Rebecca who finds out from her father on his death bed that she has a long lost 26 year old half sister. Her mother passed away years ago and she has a "great" boyfriend but something is definitely not right with the relationship. Now she will be pretty much alone in the world.....unless she seeks out this mysterious sister. She travels from NYC to Maine where her sister Joy lives, and meets a fun cast of characters, a cute guy, and finds out a lot about herself in the process. I enjoyed the style of the writing, and the way the author would express what was going through Rebecca's head. She truly contemplated things at times, then at other times would act a bit impulsively doing things like adopting a do... moreg, when she was just following her heart. The book had a lot of themes, many having to do with relationships and the ability of men in particular to be faithful. There was a psychological element to it when Rebecca would mediate for the divorcing couples (early in the story at her life in NY), and later on mediating for couples trying to stay together. The relationship between Rebecca and Joy unfolded nicely and didn't feel implausible or rushed. I totally enjoyed this and would recommended it to anyone who likes chick lit, and a very good story!
review 2: I picked this book up at the library sale and thought it had a fun cover, title and the review was interesting. All in all it was a pretty good book about a woman who is left orphaned and desperatly tries to find family in a step sister she never new she had. Lots of people with marriage problems with some willing to work on it and others not. The problem the main characater had was trying to figure out how her father could have been the loving man she new and also the total jerk who abandoned his mistress and left a little girl without a father. less
