review 1: A fun book that combines the wholesomeness of Little House on the Prairie with a touch of fantasy. What if the magical creatures from the Old World journeyed with some of the families to the new? Louisa has to prove that her pa is not guilty of stealing the neighbors belongings, but who else could have put them in the old dugout? It's up to Louisa and her neighbor Jessamine to get to the bottom of the mystery before it is too late. Recommended for grades 3 & up.
review 2: This is really cute. As a Brave Writer selection, I ordered it from Amazon and pre-read it. Can't wait to start the lesson. I won't offer any spoilers, but this is a great selection for girls and it's nice to see a new literature offering with content appropriate for children. Sure, there's... more a bit of "magic" happening, but it makes it interesting instead of scary or just plain weird. Your advanced 7-8 year old will love it, and 9-10 year olds will enjoy it too. less
