If you are a fan of Biblical fiction, you will not be disappointed. Mesu Andrews is a master at weaving a story using scripture from books of the Bible, in this case, the book of Hosea. She skillfully researches scripture including research on how the people lived, dressed, what they ate, where they lived, how women were treated, and this just adds to her storytelling . She also includes a family tree to help you understand the familial relationships. Your heart will break for Gomer as she repeatedly feels abandoned and goes back to the only way of life that makes her feel in control. Will she find lov... moree in the end and how does God finally get her attention? You may have read the book of Hosea in the Bible but Love in a Broken Vessel brings this story of restoration to life. A definite must-read!
review 2: It's really hard for me to describe this book, especially so fresh after finishing it. It's one of those books that grabbed me and didn't let me go, even after finishing it. Gomer, though a Biblical heroine, is easily identified with by modern day readers, for her struggles with God are timeless and relevant to the struggles anyone today could and probably do have with seeking the Lord. The parallels between Hosea's love and God's love are clearly seen, and at each step in this book, the reader is encouraged to think about and almost feel what the characters are feeling right along with them. I've read the other books currently published by Ms. Andrews, but none of them made me feel like this one has. It is well worth reading! less
