review 1: So I read the first book in this series (The Princess and the Hound) years ago, and thoroughly enjoyed the author's writing. Remembering that, when I saw there was a sequel, I checked out both the first one for a memory refresher and this one as well. I was not disappointed- while the books have a somewhat whimsical premise and are set out as fairytales in such a way to appeal to a younger audience, Harrison's pragmatic yet provoking writing style and bluntness in exposing the darker aspects of her characters' lives and experiences makes them a very enjoyable read for the older set, too. Her books don't end sadly, but they don't have happily-ever-after syndrome either. While her stories might be full of magic and royalty, the conflicts and problems of finding oneself are s... moreurprisingly relatable, and her princesses and princes are flawed (sometimes badly so) but likeable and very human. Would definitely recommend if you like a dash of fantasy, a good deal of adventure, and a very interesting take on human vs. animal nature.
review 2: I did like this one a little better then the princess and the hound but i would have given it five stars if the ending was not longer then it needed to be. I just felt like it did not need the last two chapters the ending could have been wrapped up in the epilogue. Other then that I thought the story was good and it was an enjoyable story I just could have been ended in a few pages rather then the way it was ended. less
