review 1: The start of something great -- in pink and grey! A little parable of what happens to your heart when you don't follow your dreams -- and getting yourself back on the right track when you realize it. It's a bit oversimplified and a bit too paint-by-numbers-I'm-a-graphic-novel-y, but the art is sharp and the story is a good start. I'm interested in more Michael Cho, and seeing where he goes from here, but it's gotta push boundaries a bit more, both artistically and narratively than this one, I think. All that said, I love the pink.
review 2: Short and sweet, Shoplifter conveys so much in 96 pages. The full page & double page illustrations are fantastic and really give a sense of the bustling streets of NYC. This book doesn't try to reinvent the wheel: it's an of
... moret-told story of a young person at a crossroads, trying to find her way in life. But it does it so well and so succinctly; a little gem about the difficult task of following your dreams. less
