review 1: Keep in mind this was a first draft I believe. Yes, I enjoyed it and what drew me to it was the setting (deep south) and circumstanced (apocalyptic storms). That being said, I did enjoy it however, it was very dark and frankly, depressing. I honestly did not want to finsih reading it but b/c the GoodReads people were nice enough to let me win it, I did. The premise is good and the setting is great, but I just did not connect with any of the characters. I did try but the "circle of trailers" was my breaking point. and the idea behind "The Line" was believable but I have too many family members who would have fared much better than this group of survivors. But again, I won this book and gave it the courtesy of a full read. Perhaps the edited version will be more enjoy... moreable.
review 2: A story to savor and to appreciate with open eyes. So much dramatic events and survival yet poignantly exploring the personal side of the protagonist. Read it slow and like I said savor the flow of where this story is heading. Weather changing and Mother Nature at her best with non- stop rain and floods. No longer a place to occupy, most leave a few stood back. Government has no interest of the people who remains. Surviving skills is tested and tested. I like the author's writing because I was made to feel the terrible circumstances and the depressing state of what is left of a so called society. The characters kept me reading and when I thought I figured someone out, I was surely mistaken. Twist and turns ran the gamut here and I appreciate it ever so much. The worst or the best comes out of people dealing with stresses evident in this story. Scary to think this could happen but be prepared. Wonderful read and eloquently written. I won this book on Goodreads, First Read Giveaway. Thank you, Darlene Cruz less
