review 1: I read this book in Dutch, but they are still being translated so I had to wait an awful long time on Wintertide. But it was worth it.To be honest, my friends spoiled the whole book a bit. They all aren't that crazy to wait for the translations and have read all the books like 2 years ago. We talk about it pretty much, so it is not to prevent they accidentally say something. I don't know if I have to be annoyed or thankful for the spoilers, 'cause maybe it made it less thrilling to read what would happen, on the other hand, the ending could have killed me without the spoilers. As every book of Sullivan is this one easy to read, funny, exciting, maybe a little cliche, but who cares about that. Modina became one of my favorite characters this book. She has a really interestin... moreg character and great character-development (to many character in this sentence). I look forward to read the last book of this serie.
review 2: Vol 5 – Wintertide - 5-StarsIn Vol 5 the story keeps at a page turning pace, multiples of characters and interior designs shifting about with now fewer than the number of chess piece on a full board, each having their play in the overall scheme, as the battle of good and evil start to take on their true colors and still another handful that like jumping the fence from plot to plot to keep you guessing and cursing at the basters for their betrayal… again…. Just when you thought they had learned it was rewarding to be in the good guy side. A Action never slows at swords, daggers and thievery continue to be the top trade skill in the master mine of the story. And Chivalry isn’t just upheld by the men, but women of enduring strength even when they feel their most vulnerable, manage to keep strong threads holding everyone else together during some of the most futile points of giving up. Like Vol 4, this is one you want to be sure to clear your calendar and just call in sick and call for take-out; as it is such a fast paced read but no means a short one, so warn the partner you’re MIA for the day with this one.BEST CATCH:“See, there’s the difference,” Mauvin started to say, “Someone close to me gets killed and everyone consoles me, someone close to Royce gets killed and whole cities start to evacuate.” less
