review 1: Unlike many of this book's reviewers, I wasn't enthralled or energized by it, found it tedious to read and was glad to be finished with it. I had hoped to enjoy this book and grow in my delight in the Trinity. Given how much mystery surrounds the reality of the Trinity (not to mention the idea of the Trinity), Reeves' delight in the Father, Son and Holy Spirit seemed too dependent on a certain linear logic (God can't have this attribute if He isn't triune, or He can only be like this if He is triune), and too limited to Puritan writers for supporting quotes. The major focus of the book seems to be on God as Father and the Son, with much less attention given to the Holy Spirit.
review 2: In short, this book is one of the best books I've read so far this year.Ree
... moreves does a magnificent job in showing why the Trinity is really one of the most central and defining aspects of Christianity, especially when contrasted against other religions. I hadn't realized or thought before about how important the Trinity is to all of Christianity. After reading this book, I am fully convinced that without the Trinity, everything would be different.Even though I had heard lots of reviews explaining why this book wasn't this way, I still was kind of expecting it to be a bit tedious and hard to get through. After all, it's about the Trinity--right? Well it is about the Trinity. But it is anything but tedious, drab, or boring. Instead, this book did exactly what the title set it to do: it made me delight in the Trinity so much more than I had before. My review could probably be summed up in a couple words: Get this book. Seriously. If you ever wanted to understand more how central the Trinity is to the world we live in, or learn to love God more for being a Trinity, this is the book you need to read.5 stars. less
