review 1: This is a great book on how to deepen your yoga practice and understanding where the teachings of yoga are pointing towards. Michael Stone has interpreted the Yoga Sutras in a way which is very accessible and relevant to modern Western lives (it is not a dry commentary on an old text that seem very outdated or too esoteric to apply to everyday living) and there is so much insight and wisdom. Having said that, this is not an easy read and the language is at times rather academic, which is why I rate it 4 stars instead of 5. I found that reading a chapter and contemplating it a few days or so was useful before moving on to the next.
review 2: This author is very deep, and I love deep men. . . Actually, I am still reading this book and find it very fascinating rea
... moreding. I really knew very little about Eastern philosophy and this author is an exceptional writer. He synthesizes all of the information brilliantly. Still not sure what I "believe" or don't "believe" re: the different concepts presented in the book but can't put this book down. Highly recommended if you want to better understand what yoga is really all about. less

I think if you read this book, you will never want to go to a yoga class at a gym.

This is a more technical look at yogic philosophy and western psychology.
