review 1: When I see a book that interests me I read the blurb. If I'm still interested a open the book randomly to see whether I like the style. Following this process I decided not to buy this book. But then I received it as a gift. So I started it a few days ago, only to realise today that my initial thoughts about this book still hold. There is no plot and minimal characterisation, other than the protagonist. So, less that 100 pages in this book is not for me. Sorry to all you who loved it.
review 2: This is the kind of story that will stick with the reader for a long, long time - especially as the plight of Tamil asylum seekers and the stance of refugee workers in Australia continues to unfold. I understand why some readers are frustrated, but personally this story
... morehit home enough for me to skim through some of the exhausting barrage of descriptions, in order to see the story to it's somewhat surprising conclusion. I loved 'meeting' Ravi and I think he taught me a lot outside of what the media leads us to believe. I didn't enjoy the writing style very much but I really loved the plot outline, so my rating is for the story, not the style. less

Just couldn't get into this book. Persisted and finished it but wouldn't read it again

Amazing prose and beautifully crafted characters... but a far-fetched ending.

Love. Two main characters were detailed, relatable, funny and unique.
