i love fashion. i love myself. i love when my outside matches my inside, which is why i decided to write today’s post. since we’re on a road to self-love and january is the month to reinvent ourselves, what better way to bring about a reinvention than with a new wardrobe?! let’s get this party startedddddddd!!!
1. DISCOVER WHAT YOUR STYLE IS.
i’m a firm believer that you’ll never truly be yourself or be happy with yourself until you’re wearing clothes that depict who you are on the inside. whether you browse the internet for inspiration or you go cold turkey into a store a throw things together, create a wardrobe that will help you express yourself more. some styles you may want to check out are:
grunge– a style emphasizing used, tattered, baggy clothes, including plaid flannel shirts, heavyboots, etc.
casual– a style of clothes that make a person look relaxed and at ease.
timeless– a style representing the iconic silhouettes of historically popular designs; timeless is a classic of some sort that is unchanged by time.
athleisure– a style of clothing worn as athletic apparel but also suitable for casual, everyday wear; looks great whether you’re working out or just running errands.
those are the four main styles i’ve been seeing a lot lately that can help you figure out what suits you best. personally my style bohemian with a dash of grunge and athleisure from time to time. whatever your style is, wear it. we’re on the path to self-discovery y’all!!
2. FIND CLOTHES THAT FIT YOUR BODY TYPE.
dudeeeee. i feel like this is something a lot of girls/women struggle with. it’s not that you CAN’T wear something, you just haven’t found the right shape for your body. i’m not educated enough to help you decide which body type is yours, but i will leave a link for you here lol. depending on my weight i can be an hourglass or a pear shape, and i’m totally fine with both.
personally i find that skinny jeans look better on me because they mold to my body and make everything look tight and right. i loveeee wearing booties because they make my legs look even longer and i love it. dresses that are cinched in the waist flatter my body so much more because they hide the pooch and just let me flow. high necklines are oh so beautifully me because when i wear a high neck shirt, my boobs (they’re a problem 24/7) stay covered and look nice. these are things that took me 1,2,3….17 YEARS TO FIGURE OUT. trust the process, trust yourself.
3. SHOP THE SALES.
we’ve already established that 2018 is our year of abundance and success…the last thing we need is to spend too much $$$ on clothes that we could find cheaper somewhere else. first, let’s talk about a few of my favorite stores: forever 21, charlotte russe, and old navy. in all of those stores, you can find adorable clothes catered to almost every style for less than $20. ***disclaimer: those stores aren’t $20 and under, but you can find tons of items that cheap*** second, understand that there is absolutely nothing wrong with shopping the clearance rack honey. you can find the cutest clothes at the cheapest price and no one ever has to know.
third, thrift shops are your best friends. i will say, do your research because every thrift shop unknowingly “specializes” in a specific style of clothing depending on what city you’re in. for example, i guess a lot of older men and women donate to the goodwill where i live because i always find 70s and 80s inspired articles of clothing. on the flip side, one of my favorite thrift stores in dallas specializes in trendier clothing. it’s a very subjective craft that takes practice, but you’ll get the hang of it eventually. moral of the story: buy cheap clothes because you can still look cute and you need to save money.
