review 1: This picture book bio would interest and inform any kid who read it. It encourages us to pour over the details of the illustrations and wonder where in the body of his work that flower or this animal can be found. I loved that there is a key at the end to the personalities to be found in the group illustrations so we can find out who Rousseau hob-nobbed (how do you spell that?) with in Paris at the last century's turn.
review 2: Loved the story and the beautiful illustrations. Did not know that Rousseau was considered the first self-taught artist to be recognized as a master. He actually didn't start painting until the age of 41 and received much ridicule for his work, year after year. Very interesting story, but I sure wanted to know the sources of the au
