review 1: This is the final book in a series I really enjoyed - I listened to the first five, and now, several years after it was published, I determined I would never find the audio book at any of my libraries, so I gave up and read the last book. So glad I did - Paver manages to wrap up this story in a very satisfactory way. I can't say it was unpredictable - but then the series is written for 8-10 year olds and I'm closer to 60 than 8 - I don't know if kids would make the same plot leaps I made while reading - and knowing jdidn't spoil any part of the tale for me. Plus, Paver had some minor points I didn't see coming, so hurrah! This is a great series for kids interested in how people might have lived in prehistoric times.
review 2: Torak is on his way to the mount... moreain to defeat the last and strongest Soul Eater, Eostra. He left without telling Renn, and stopped by Wolf and his mate, Darkfur, to see the cubs and say goodbye. Once he left the den, he headed towards the mountain. Little did he know that someone was going to kill Darkfur and one of the cubs, also kidnapping a cub, Pebbles. Renn finding out that Torak left decided that she had to go help him, and somehow managed to get ahead of him.This narrative is about friendship and sacrifices. Sacrifice in this story is when Torak makes a hard decision of leaving everything/everyone he loves behind and knowing that he probably won't make it back alive just so everyone else can live in peace. Friendship of this story is like when Renn decides that Torak shouldn't being going to fight Eostra alone, so she too left, hoping to find him and help him.I believe that this book can be read (and liked) by anyone, but I suggest that people who aren't in middle school yet shouldn't read this. It's a narrative so it is easy to follow, and it has Torak, Renn, and Wolf's point of view. That makes it easier to read, so they all don't just pop up out of nowhere and confuse us. But I also suggest that you read the rest of the series before reading this one since it is the last book. You can read it without reading the others, but it would be easier to understand if you read the first five books. I would give this book 5 out of 5 stars because it is easy to read and fall in love with, I just wasn't able to put the book down. less
