review 1: I tore through Paver's previous series, (Chronicles of Ancient Darkness) in middle and high school and was sad when I finished the sixth and final volume, imagine my elation a few years later when I see that she has begun yet a new series!I immediately bought a copy of this first one and expected to regain my literary happy place and enjoy and impatiently await the US release of subsequent books every bit as much as before. The trouble is I found myself just...not... I just didn't feel as connected to the characters or their world and I'm not sure why that is. I just felt like this world wasn't mine, nor were it's people, my people. I don't know if the time skip and culture shift bothered me because I was the old series' biggest fan or what. At the end of the day, I enjoye... mored this and book 2 of this series but not as much as I thought I was going to. I recommend picking it up from the library and making your own decisions about it.
