review 1: Definitely had fun reading it. I didn't take as long as my timers indicated. I originally read the first three chapters, found them a bit boring and read something else. I eventually went back and read from start to finish, and I'm happy I did. It was a good book, although I'm personally not committed to a sequel. It's like watching the first Matrix movie. Even if everything isn't resolved, it's still stands on it's own.Definitely good for younger readers. It's accessible but doesn't talk down to them.
review 2: For the first 2/3 or so of this book, it's unclear whether the primitive gods in this story are real or if it's more of a historical fiction that just portrays the people's beliefs. I would have preferred it be more of a historical fiction. Because once
... more we see that the gods in this story are real, suddenly there's a magical artifact, a prophecy, and a boy-from-humble-beginnings who's destined to save/destroy the world. And a big ol' deus ex machina near the end. So... disappointing. less
