review 1: Previously, I had read and enjoyed three other books by this author. However, this one was incredibly boring. The cheap gimmick of switching back and forth in time was distracting. The characters were unlikable. The mystery surrounding Ethan was the only thing that kept me reading, but even that was a huge disappointment. This novel simply didn't make me care about the characters. The secession plotline was interesting, but the author clearly overestimates California's contributions to the nation. The governor is also a loathsome individual. This book was just a disaster.
review 2: I good read. I happened to see this on the new book shelf at the library. The title grabbed me as did the golden gate bridge on the cover. Michelle Richmond does not disappoint.
... more The story of Julie Walker drew me in quickly and I wanted to plow through it. One of my favorite quotes in the book is the very last line..."there is a simple truth, and it is this: Somehow, we must most forward, always carrying with us who we are, always looking forward to who we might be". This sums up Julie's journey to her sister and Julie's journey to find who she has become. less

For a book that had so much going on , I found it a bit boring and found it hard to finish.
