review 1: Max Allan Collins completes the unfinished Mickey Spillane novel which was to be the last of the Mike Hammer series. Two graduate students uncover a thighbone in the Middle East that is reputed to be the remains of the biblical Goliath. Mike Hammer saves their lives and the bone during an attempted robbery and assassination. He and Velma delay their own wedding plans to protect the young couple. Murder abounds.
review 2: It left a bitter aftertaste in my mouth. A posthumous piece from the master of hard boiled detective fiction, an attempt to update this genre against the post 9/11 landscape falls flat disastrously. Seriously cliched, shamelessly xenophobic and inadequately researched, I only finished it for the fond memories I had of reading Spillane's earlier
... more work. Not a worthwhile reading, and Spillane fans would be better served revisiting his earlier books, rather than spoiling their appetite with this anachronistic piece of work. less

Every time I was likely to get bored the story had a twist to keep me going.
