review 1: The is a long book (535 pages) of 25 short stories about time travel, i.e. about people who move around in time in various directions and at speeds other than 1 second forward every second. Some stories I like, some I didn't like so much; that's the thing about short stories. I particularly liked The Very Slow Time Machine by Ian Watson in which a time traveller pops into existence in 1980, but has been travelling backward in time (1second per second) since 2019, when he disappears. From our perspective he got younger all the time, while from his own perspective he aged normally. Why was he doing this? Read the story to find out. As usual, compilations don't rate highly with me, so only 5/10. (February 2014)
review 2: I picked this up for a couple of quid not
... moreexpecting a great deal from it. Like many anthologies you hope for at most half a dozen great tales buried in twice much dross. For time travel as a subject I was expecting fewer gems. For such a well-worn path I was not convinced that there was that much more to surprise or delight in that sub set of SF. However I was pleased to be proven very, very wrong. Out of 25 tales at least 23 shone and I had only read two of those before. Even those few that don’t have a strong ending were a delight to read (in which category I would particularly place “Palely Loiterering” by Christopher Priest). Well recommended and (if you are in the UK) probably still to be found in Bargain Books if you look hard enough…. less

Most enjoyable - there was only one story in the collection which I didn't enjoy.
