review 1: Mignola and co. continue to amaze with their incredible journey from X-Filesy funtime to straight-up apocalyptic hellscape. These stories focusing on lesser characters we've had the last few years makes for a refreshing change of pace, and it's especially rewarding to have as many call-backs as those found in this volume. Also nice to get more backstory on Varvara and a slight crossover with Hellboy mythology, just to remind us what universe BPRD actually grew out of. I must also confess that it wasn't until this volume that I drew the parallel between the Iosef in Abe Sapien and the director of the Special Sciences. How did I miss that?!I love this series more and more, and cannot wait to see where they take us next. And the reveal of the return of certain characters that... more we saw in this and in the previous volume? Makes me that much more giddy with anticipation for the next instalment.
review 2: A somewhat more realistic art style, which I actually quite liked. The story seems transitional, with some really large creatures starting to wreak havoc in major cities across the world; very Lovecraftian, which isn't a surprise. The bit with the kid leading his transformed mother to the group was maybe a bit far-fetched. Why didn't she just kill and eat him, unless there is something deeper going on in what is left of the brains of the transformed. They just don't act with such restraint normally. Anyway, good continuation of this world. Still enjoying it. less

I enjoy the apocalyptic world BPRD inhabits. Russian director: creepy.
