review 1: I am conflicted on this one. The illustrations were great. I enjoyed them. The stories themselves were either a complete mess or wonderful satire. The problem is that I am not totally sure which one. Looking at the reviews, it would seem that most lean one way or the other. Because of that, I'm not sure there is a right answer. The stories were fanciful, strange, but really rushed and seemingly random. It was light, goofy humor at its best and under-developed awkwardness at its worst.
review 2: It's not that there was anything specifically wrong with it, there just wasn't enough of what was right with it.If all those pages had been used to tell a single story, I think I would have found it more satisfying. Every time I started to really enjoy where something w
... moreas going, it would abruptly end. Hrmph. There actually is a lot I really liked about this, but in the end it was kind of like eating three or four amuse bouche--each of the individual flavors was very enjoyable, but there wasn't enough of each to be satisfying, and taken all together you still don't have a meal.Sorry, Mignola fans. I don't need a banquet with everything I read, but I do want at least a small meal. If you have any other recommendations, I'm eager to check them out. less
