The Stuff of Legend
review 1: In a child's bedroom in 1944, the monstrous tentacles of the Boogeyman emerge from a closet to drag the young boy into the dark within. In the vein of Toy Story, the boy's toys come alive to mount a rescue mission, following him into the dark. Once there, the toys become real, taking on more realistic forms and fighting the armies of the Boogeyman to find their boy. How can eight living toys possibly prevail against the forces of evil? As a first volume, this is creepy and promising. The toys real forms are interesting, and they're surprisingly well rounded emotionally. Since they've become real lots of things have changed for them - they can be hurt in ways they couldn't before, and vice versa. Also, the female characters are formidable warriors and get to fill some of th... moree strong silent type roles, which is cool to see. I wasn't compelled to read this book until I discovered it was more horror than any other genre, and I was surprised to find it a bit tragic and rather dark. I wish they'd used a more representative picture for the cover. I'd recommend this title for 8th grade and up, as it is a bit scary and violent. This isn't a very well written review, but eh, I just want to get my thoughts down.

This was pretty good. A little more high fantasy than I usually prefer.

Good graphic novel. Getting more into the genre but am very selective.
