review 1: The Shadowhunter's Guide is an okay book. It pretty much tells you all you need to know about the books, but as one of the major know-it-alls of Mortal Instruments, why would I need it? I mean, it is good if you forget a minor detail, but it is expensive and I'd say, a little waste of your money. If you want to read it, I suggest sitting in the store for ten minutes and reading. It doesn't take long at all and the majority of the book is pictures and movie pictures. So . . . I did enjoy it, but there was definitely not enough included to make a guide. I prefer the Shadowhunter's Codex.
review 2: When I first saw this book, I kind of just rolled my eyes and wondered why I would ever need a Shadowhunter's Guide, since I've been a fan of the series since around 20
... more09. Now, this is by no means a necessary read, but I did enjoy the color photographs, quotes, and descriptions, though sometimes the writing was pretty annoying (long sentences that try too hard to be an excited tone). There's one thing I think you should know before picking this book up: there is a summary for the movie in it. It outlines some of the main plot, not enough to give everything away, but still enough to be spoilers. Personally, I enjoyed knowing some of the details in the plot they changed and rearranged. That way, I can get used to these changes in my mind before the movie comes out. If that isn't what you want, make sure you don't accidentally read the summary if you pick up this book. less
