review 1: Overall this book was very disappointing; its only good qualities are the glossy photos and the quotes. Otherwise, it is basically a junior novelization disguised as a guide to the shadowhunter world as depicted in the film adaptation. (And why would there even be a junior novelization for a film based on a YA book?) Even if someone actually wanted to read a Cliff's Notes version of the film, they would unfortunately encounter inaccurate information in multiple places (information that contradictions both the film and the novel, as well as the codex). It's a quick read, but most fans of the books will find it to also be an annoying waste of time.
review 2: Very easy read. I loved all the pictures in the book (especially those of the runes) and some of the e... morexplanations they had about certain things, but I didn't like that they based this book more on the movie of TMI City of Bones, than the book. It's been a while since I actually read the TMI series, but I was still able to know that some of the things that were mentioned in this particular book didn't happen in the first TMI book. less
